Edgware Community Fund allocates £26,665 to support local projects

  • Second round of Edgware Town Centre Community Fund awards grants to nine local charities and community groups

  • The 2025 fund will provide a range of activities to benefit Edgware residents, including boxing, reading and food growing

Ballymore has announced the successful applicants to the second round of the Edgware Town Centre Community Fund, which provides grants for local groups from in and around Edgware.

Grants of up to £3,000 have been awarded to nine projects seeking to bring together the community, promote health and wellbeing, champion young people, skills and training or enhance Edgware’s environment and public realm.

Recipients of this year’s fund are:

  • Kisharon Langdon – who will help fund a year’s worth of nutritionist sessions, providing the staff, ingredients, and gardening materials aimed at supporting local disadvantaged residents.

  • Yoga with Chandni – will deliver free or low-cost yoga sessions for the community.

  • Give. Help. Share. – looks to deliver a food education programme to schoolchildren in the Edgware area, helping in improving their dietary behaviours to help them make healthier food choices.

  • ·Lifestyle Inclusion Future Together CIC – plan to provide the “Estate 2 Estate” project, which will see 16 weeks of football sessions to bring young people together to improve not only their physical health but also to reduce anti-social behaviour.

  • Kinspiration CIC – will oversee “The Power of YOU”, a six week programme to support children with disabilities and their families through guided creative activities.

  • Citizens Advice Barnet Edgware Outreach – will use their grant to train and support volunteers to provide advice on housing, benefits, debt and more.

  • Unitas Youth Zone ABC (Amateur Boxing Club) – Set up in 2023, the ABC helps its 25 members with opportunities to learn to box. Their grant will help them to continue and expand their work.

  • NW7Hub – will transform a neglected allotment into a thriving space for residents from Edgware and Mill Hill to grow their own food.

  • Read Easy Barnet – encourages more adult reading through one-to-one coaching sessions. Their grant will allow them to double the number of trained readers and purchase the materials they need.

Ballymore continued the support of last year’s fund, which saw a further £26,000 given to twelve projects, plus the long-standing support Ballymore has provided to the Edgware Community since 2020.

Ballymore’s ambitious masterplan for Edgware town centre proposes to deliver 3,365 new homes, including up to 1,150 affordable homes, and 463 student accommodation spaces. There will also be a significant increase in green space for the town centre, including a new Deans Brook Nature Park, which is to be created by unlocking land which has been inaccessible to the public for almost 100 years.

Simon Ryan, Developments Director at Ballymore said: “It is a joy to announce the second set of recipients of the Edgware Town Centre Community Fund. At Ballymore, we are thrilled to keep giving back to the brilliant community in Edgware, which over the last five years we are proud to have been a part of.

We thank all the applicants and say a big well done to this year’s recipients. The organisations we have funded this year will benefit a diverse range of residents, which is what our community fund is all about. We are confident the £26,000 we have provided will make a real difference.”

Paul Margree, Fundraiser of Read Easy Barnet said: "Read Easy Barnet is overjoyed to receive this Edgware Town Centre Community Fund grant. We'll be able to support more people through our free, one-to-one, confidential reading coaching and invest in additional specialised materials. All of this will help us to continue transforming people’s lives across the London Borough of Barnet by teaching them to read."

Robin Moss, Chief Executive of Unitas Youth Zone said: “We are excited for the opportunity to partner with Edgware Town Centre and Ballymore to support our incredible amateur boxing club, Unitas ABC.  The Community Fund grant will help provide a safe, supportive space for young people from across Barnet and beyond to increase confidence, improve fitness, and develop positive peer relationships.”

Ashley Levien, Co-Founder and Director of LiFT CIC: “A huge thank you to Ballymore for their amazing support. Thanks to their funding, LiFT CIC can continue to run free football sessions for young people aged 11-18 in the local community. Their support means a lot and will help us continue to make a positive difference.”
